Recently, the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Committee approved proposals submitted by ACCA for public comment. Starting January 1, 2023, the Department of Energy will be updating its energy efficiency standards for HVACR equipment. In addition to this, regional standards in the South and Southwest will be based on the date of installation, not the date of manufacture. These regulations could make existing supply shortages worse, and open the doors for distributors to shift responsibility to the customer. Acknowledging shade is a big part of doing a load calculation. Sometimes it’s done correctly and sometimes it’s done incorrectly.
