Size a Heat Pump for…Heating?!?
Until about 20 years ago, heat pumps were basically air conditioners…with a quirky valve that let it provide some heating. Now heat pumps are more robust and make better use of technology that can provide sufficient heat during frigid weather. In fact, new units seek to deliver heat down to -20F (York/JCI, Trane, Carrier). This makes them the flavor of the month for the electrification and renewable energy crowds. So, what does ACCA (Manual S) say about sizing a heat pump for heating?
