Matt, what are the common signs of a capacitor failing, and how does this affect system performance?

In this edition of “HVAC Skill Builder,” Matt discusses the common signs of a capacitor failing and how that affects system performance overall.

Matt, what are the common signs of the capacitor failing and how does this affect system performance? One of the signs of the capacitor failing is actually when it failed most technicians go out and let’s see if the capacitor has failed the top of its popped off or not allowing the compressor of the fan motor to run. Now how this affects system performance that if it is running outside of the specifications it can call some undue strain on the compressor namely which were required to work harder and if it’s working harder it can’t keep up with the load of the home it’s not going to be efficient at as if running and it also calls the customer of power bills at times to go up so very important that when you’re out checking the capacitor or replacing one you go back with the correct size and make sure it’s operated properly for your days.
