Matt, how can you use a psychrometric chart to determine system efficiency and potential issues?
In this edition of “HVAC Skill Builder,” Matt discusses using a psychrometric chart when assessing an HVAC system's efficiency.
Matt, how can you use a psychometric chart to determine system efficiency and potential issues? Well, one way to use a psychometric chart is you can plot a few things on a psychometric chart and then it’ll give you the other properties of that system or the air. So it’s a great diagnostic tool to figure out if the system’s able to remove the heat or if it’s able to take out the lathe load, aka the relative humidity, and then also getting how the total capacity is operating when using a psychometric chart. So they make a lot of apps for doing the psychometrist, but the old school is using a chart, plotting a few things to see where the lines are, but if you are out there doing any type of maintenance or diagnostic to folks at home, you definitely need to learn how to use a psychometric app so you can get a full picture.
