Matt, how does low refrigerant pressure affect the evaporator coil’s ability to absorb heat? Well, when you have low refrigerant going into the evaporator coil, if you have a low pressure, it’s going to affect it by not allowing for proper heat transfer. And what will happen is, a few things can happen, but the main one is the air going to call the evaporator coil is not going to be able to give all of its heat to the evaporator coil and move that system through the refrigeration process. Instead, that coil would end up dropping down to 32 degrees or below and it’ll start freezing up. And that’ll also cause system performance issues and results of a no cooling call. But once all the refrigerant is gone, it’s just going to keep running, it’s not going to cool very well. At that point, you’re going to have to diagnose where a leak is and get that fixed.
