Hey Ed, What Is the Best Duct Material to Use?
In This Edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed Discusses What Is the Best Duct Material to Use
Hey Ed, what is the best duct material to use? The best duct material to use is the duct material that you can make the most profit with. One of the things that I always like to talk about periodically is the idea of being in this industry and why we do it. It's a way to have the ability to earn a good living and always have a job and all that good stuff, but profit isn't a dirty word, right? It's not something to ever be ashamed of. So, when it comes to selecting any of the materials we use, use what's going to be the most profitable. A product like duct board in some markets, gets a bad name, and I don't think it's deserved. Can you have problems with duct board? Absolutely. Is it a product problem? Absolutely not. It's an installation design or application issue. The same problems can happen with a sheet metal duct that's lined with a liner. It comes back to velocity in the duct. So, if we keep our velocity in check, the product should work as it's designed. So, when it comes to selecting materials, I want to install what I can install the best, and the best to me is the tightest and done with the least amount of, I don't know if I want to use the word effort, I want to do it so I can do it the most profitable way, and that's the way I see it.
