Rick Allgeier being awarded the 2024 Federated Insurance ACCA Super S.T.A.R. Award

Rick Allgeier, founder and CEO of Allgeier Air in Louisville, Kentucky, was awarded the 2024 Federated Insurance ACCA Super S.T.A.R. Award. The award was presented during ACCA’s awards celebration at ACCA 2024 in March in Orlando, Florida.

Each year, ACCA’s insurance and risk management partner, Federated Mutual Insurance Company, recognizes an ACCA member who is a Federated Insurance® client and represents the four components of the award: Safety, teamwork, accountability, and responsibility.

For 29 years, Allgeier Air has specialized in the service, design, and installation of HVACR systems. They offer 24-hour emergency service and repair and have a firm belief in providing quality products and services. Their operation standards are high, and Allgeier Air is focused on employee and workplace safety.

“Employee health and safety are important factors in assuring every employee is successful,” said Allgeier. “They are at the heart of a functioning and profitable business.”

When it comes to starting new employees off on the right foot, Allgeier has spared no expense. “Meetings are held weekly and have a safety component included,” he said. In addition, he hosts semi-annual meetings with outside training from Federated Insurance to help drive home a message of risk management.

Allgeier also takes advantage of Federated’s training resources to provide additional safety messages. With his many years of experience, he has a deep understanding of the HVACR industry, but notes that one important piece of advice is to, “create process procedures and policies, and stick by them.”

As a business that relies on servicing customers at their properties, safe driving is an integral part of Allgeier Air’s success. Allgeier notes that personal cell phone use is one of the biggest dangers he sees. To remedy this, his company vehicles have in-cab forward-facing cameras installed, and he receives telematics notifications when distracted driving occurs.

Allgeier highlights the importance of high standards when it comes to workplace and employee risk management practices. “Don’t have the attitude that it doesn’t matter because that’s what insurance is for. Keep everyone trained on safety — it’s as important as everything else you train for. Keep it top-of-mind.”
