ACCA Austin Hosts 1st Annual HVAC Industry Challenge

The Austin Chapter of Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), a non-profit trade association serving the Heating, Venting, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry held its 1st Annual HVAC Industry Challenge on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in Georgetown, Texas at Reunion Ranch.
Kathy Jeffery, ACCA Austin Board Member and VP of Air Pro Austin, explained the invitational event was organized to promote the HVAC industry products and services and to bring the industry contractors and suppliers together for some friendly competition. Ms. Jeffery further reported that the entire Austin area HVAC industry was invited to this event and was supported by upwards of 100 attendees.
Food, fun, and fellowship were the key elements of this inaugural event. An amateur competition BBQ cook-off, highlighting chicken and baby back ribs, was conducted on the ranch grounds. Century Supply of San Marcos swept the field this year taking first place in the chicken category, first place in the baby back ribs category, and first place overall. Pit boss was Charlie Gallagher and his sous chef was Travis Fowler, both men are with Century Supply.
An eight station sporting clay course was brought to the ranch and run by Tournament Targets, Inc. of San Antonio. A total of 15-four man teams competed in a Lewis Class scoring tournament for first, second, and third place team trophies. First place winning team went to RGF Environmental Group and second and third place teams went to Robert Madden Industries.
After the shoot, attendees enjoyed an all-you-care-to-eat BBQ buffet and awards banquet. Todd McAlister, Executive Director of ACCA Texas emceed the festivities. Steve Lauten, ACCA National Board Member and owner of Total Heat & A/C in Plano, spoke about the benefits of ACCA membership. Texas Gas Service representatives shared information regarding TGS Conservation Program for natural gas fleet vehicles, and platinum sponsor spokesmen for Century A/C Supply, Ince Distributing and Robert Madden Industries addressed the audience as well.
Winning raffle tickets, included in each entry fee, were drawn by Rock Robinson, Senior Investigator for Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation. Prizes included gift certificates to Cabela’s, Highland Lanes, Lowe’s, BBQ Galore, Alamo Drafthouse, and a Black & Decker tool set and were donated by Curbco, Federated Insurance, Robert Madden Industries, and Tex-Air Filters.
