Hey Ed, I Am Looking To See if You Have a Cut Sheet to Complete a Load Calculation for Heat Pumps?
In This Edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed Talks About Cut Sheets to Complete a Load Calculation for a Heat Pump
Hey Ed, I am looking to see if you have a cut sheet to complete a load calculation for heat pumps. Fairly regularly, I get asked for, and I'm gonna call when it is, a cheat or a shortcut for doing a load calculation. The frequency that this request is coming through for heat pumps is increasing due to the popularity of heat pumps with the electrification that's taking place. I don't have a good vessel or way to cheat because that's exactly what it is. It's cheating. Don't do it. If you need to know what size heat pump you need, follow the design series. Do a proper load calculation via Manual J®. Use the proper method of equipment selection via Manual S® and then do a proper duct design using Manual T®. There is no way to replace proper design, and at the end of the day, you're not gonna be happy with the results that you get from a shortcut method. And that's the way I see it.
