Hey Ed, Can I Estimate Latent Capacity Based on the Water Coming Out of the Drain?

In this edition of "Hey Ed", Ed discusses if you can estimate latent capacity based on the water coming out of the drain

Hey Ed, can I estimate latent capacity based on the water coming out of the drain. Oh, it's one of my favorite questions I've heard in a while, It's kind of like a science experiment. One of the things that I learned a long time ago is our industry is based-of of math and there’s a lot of people that resist that math, being able to show somebody the BTU content that exists from the water dripping out from the Y pipe doesn't make you a lot of friends at the family’s barbeques, but if you get somebody that’s interested in measuring the capacity of equipment, it's a pretty straight forward calculation, this isn't exact but roughly you're gonna get a thousand BTU’s of heat rejected when you condense a pound of water out of the air, using a red solo cup, 16 ounces, you fill it up that represents a thousand BTU's of heat being removed from the air and that’s the way I see it.
