Department of Homeland Security Says HVAC is Essential
Posted on:
Thanks to ACCA’s early actions, the Department of Homeland Security has issued updated guidance clarifying that HVAC is an essential business. On March 16, 2020, ACCA sent letters to President Trump and every member of Congress and issued a nationwide take-action alert for the HVACR industry. Through ACCA’s actions, nearly 21,000 e-mails and letters were sent to elected officials across the country. ACCA’s goal was to ensure that public officials determined that HVAC was listed as an essential business.
Thanks to ACCA’s actions and pressure on public officials, DHS issued updated guidance on March 28, 2020, clarifying that HVAC is an essential business, that state and local governments are advised to follow. While state and local governments are responsible for determining which businesses are essential in their areas, thus far, all of these entities are following DHS guidance and considering HVAC as essential. Thank you, everyone, who contacted their elected officials and helped make this possible! Your voice and ACCA’s early actions helped secure this important clarification from DHS, and ACCA will continue to work to ensure state and local governments follow DHS guidance.
