ACCA Announces 45-day Public Review of Residential Zoning Manual

Posted on:

The Air Conditioning Contractors of America Educational Institute (ACCA-EI) Standards Task Team (STT) announced the First Public Review of BSR/ACCA 11 Manual Zr – 201x (Residential Zoning). The 45-day public review period will begin on December 1, 2017 and will close on January 15, 2018.

Manual Zr defines the requirements for designing zoned comfort systems for residential living space, including single family detached structures that have one, or more, residential comfort systems and multifamily attached structures that have separate comfort systems for each dwelling unit. Multifamily attached structures include duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and small to medium size condominiums or three stories or less.

Larger multifamily buildings can have any footprint size and any number of floor levels, providing that each dwelling unit has its own residential comfort system equipment, exhaust air system, and as required, its own outdoor air system for indoor air quality and/or makeup air.

Zoning can be provided by zone dampers in a duct system or by ductless multi-split equipment. It can also be done by two, or more, pieces of ductless split equipment, two or more central air systems, two or more PTAC or PTHP units, or by two, or more, AHAM units (air conditioner or heat pump). Zone valves in a hot water heating system (baseboard, or radiant panel) are also included in Manual Zr.

A copy of the proposed Standard can be downloaded for free from www.acca.org/ansi. Comments on this public review must be submitted by January 15, 2018 (5:00 P.M. EDT) using the ACCA Public Response Form available from www.acca.org/ansi/.
