Matt, What Are the Essential Safety Protocols Technicians Must Follow When Installing or Repairing HVAC Systems?

In this edition of "HVAC Skill Builder," Matt discusses the essential safety protocols technicians must follow when installing or repairing hvac systems.

What are the essential safety protocols technicians must follow when installing or repairing HVAC systems? When it comes to safety, that is a very important aspect on the job. And the number one priority with that is going to be, from my opinion, your lockout tagout. You want to make sure before you start working on that equipment, or you’re going to replace the equipment, that the system has been properly locked out to where there is no power going to that system. And you want to be able to follow those protocols as well to where somebody can’t come in there and turn the breaker back on or turn the switch back on. So when you’re dealing with live equipment and you’re going to replace it or repair it, make sure the system is properly locked out before doing any work. And finally, after you lock out the system, take a meter and make sure the power is in fact not going to that equipment in the event that someone has probably done some repair work that was not correct. And make sure that the system has not been bypassed through a breaker or a switch.
