In this edition of “HVAC Skill Builder,” Matt discusses using a multimetr to diagnose electrical issues in an HVAC system.
Matt, how can you use a multimeter to diagnose electrical issues in an HVAC system? Well, the multimeter is in fact a very basic tool for technicians and it serves many purposes. A few things you can do with your electrical meter is measure the voltage coming in and out of the system. You can also measure resistance of components. You can also use the ohms on the meter to figure out if windings are bad. So if you’re a new technician and you’re just getting into HVAC, the multimeter is going to be your best friend and it serves as a great tool to diagnose many electrical issues.
