Matt, How Can I Determine What the Target Superheat Formula Is if I Don’t Have the Manufacturer’s Charging Chart?

In this edition of "HVAC Skill Builder," Matt discusses how to determine what the target superheat formula is if you don't have the manufacturer's charging chart

Matt, how can I determine what the target superheat formula is if I don't have the manufacturer's charging chart? That's a great question and it's a really simple formula that you can use in the field and it can help you get out of that bind if you don't have the OEM data to figure out where the charge needs to be and the formula for that is is going to be three times the indoor wet bolt temperature minus 80 minus the outdoor ambient temperature and divide the results by two and that will give you your target superheat when charging the system.
