Matt, how can a restricted TXV impact system operation?
In this edition of “HVAC Skill Builder,” Matt discusses the impact a restricted TXV has on an HVAC system operation.
Matt, how can a restricted TXV impact system operation? A restricted TXV can have very dire consequences on a system if it becomes restricted. Well, how does it become restricted? Well, number one is it can actually fail in the closed position, allowing not the refrigerant to go through, which will defect on how it’s actually going to meter that refrigerant. The other is if you don’t have how cold or proper vacuum on the system and there was contamination in the system and it blocked it up, that can also cause it to be blocked. But either scenario could be detrimental on a system. So it was very, very important that when you’re out doing a maintenance, doing repair, doing an install, you follow all the proper installation practices to ensure that TXV is not going to either become stuck or it’s going to become contaminating the stud inside the refrigerator.
