Hey Ed, why does Manual J® use one person per bedroom plus one in the data collection part of the survey?
In this edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed discusses the Manual J calculations for bedrooms.
Hey Ed, why does Manual J use one person per bedroom plus one in the data collection part of the survey? We use one person per bedroom and two in the primary bedroom to count the occupants in a house. And it’s done a little bit for the BTUs, both sensible and latent, that they add to the structure. More so, it’s used as part of a calculation in Manual J to determine how much fresh air is required. It goes back to some ICC codes or ASHRAE 622 to determine what the required ventilation is. And that’s the way I see it.
