Hey Ed, Which Is Heavier Dry Air or Wet Air?
In this edition of "Hey Ed," Ed talks about what kind of air is heavier.
Hey, Ed, which is heavier dry air or wet air? This is a topic that comes up because we talk about drying out air with air conditioning and it comes down to a thing called mass flow and I’m not going to talk about that now, but it has to do with it. But if you have the ability to pause right now and formulate an opinion, is that air getting lighter or heavier, go think about it and then when you come back, we’re going to discuss it. And it’s very simple. When you add moisture to air, it actually becomes lighter, not heavier, which is opposed to what most people think. And if you’re still struggling with that, picture in your mind, if you go outside right now, are the clouds rolling along the ground because they’re heavier or are they up in the sky because they’re lighter? And that’s the way I see it.
