Hey Ed, what install techniques have you changed when installing A2L refrigerants?
In this edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed discusses A2L installation techniques.
Hey Ed, what install techniques have you changed when installing A2L refrigerants? This is another one of those topics where I have heard people talk about things that they’re doing different. And on the few pieces of equipment that I’ve installed so far or have been part of the installation, virtually no changes on my part have been made with the exception of I had to buy one of those adapters so I could screw those left hand threads on to the drama refrigerant. As long as you’re going to use good refrigeration practices, i.e. purge with nitrogen, use a vacuum pump and include a decay test when you’ve come to the conclusion of that systems vacuum, there’s really nothing different that needs to be done with the A2Ls. The one thing I will add to it is to be sure to follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions because there might be a refrigerant leak detector that’s part of the process, but for all intent purposes, if you’re using good refrigeration practices, you’re not changing much, if anything, of what you do. And that’s the way I see it.
