Hey Ed, should the suction line of an operating air conditioner be sweating?
In this edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed discusses if the suction line of an operating air conditioner should be sweating.
Hey Ed, should the suction line of an operating air conditioner be sweating? That is another good question. I have heard people say that a suction line on an air conditioner should always be sweating. And that’s true if the conditions require it. In other words, if the humidity outside is high enough that that line is going to reach dew point, it should sweat. But you can go someplace like one of my favorite places to talk about is Park City, Utah. It’s dry and those air conditioners will never have sweaty suction lines because there’s not enough moisture in the air. So that goes back to beer can cold or whatever fun thing you want to do, like sticking your hand over the outdoor unit and making sure heat is coming off. It is determined by moisture content in the air and nothing more. And that’s the way I see it.
