Hey Ed, is A2L to be charged as a liquid?

In this edition of "Hey Ed," Ed discusses how A2L can be charged as a liquid.

Hey Ed, is A2L to be charged as a liquid? Charging any refrigerant as a liquid is something that is easier to do simply because you can maintain pressure in the bottle. It’s more important when we are using any type of refrigerant that is a blend so no fractionation will take place. The caveat to charging as a liquid is you should never be putting liquid refrigerant directly into the suction side of the system. You should be using some kind of orifice to get that refrigerant to boil so it doesn’t do any damage to the compressor and that’s the way I see it.
