Hey Ed, is a dry bulb ΔT a good indication of system performance?
In this edition of “Hey Ed,” Ed discusses the connection between dry bulb ΔT and good system performance.
Hey Ed, is a dry bulb ΔT a good indication of system performance? The ΔT of any system can be a way to grade or determine if a system is functioning properly. As long as the temperature change is 100% sensible. And that can happen obviously in heating and in some markets throughout the United States that can also happen in cooling. But the majority of the markets like 80% of them, moisture removal is part of that process. And if the only thing we measure is a sensible temperature difference, we’re forgetting part of the process. So if you’re checking an air conditioner in Maryland, New Jersey and you’re only measuring the sensible temperature difference, you’re leaving out part of the equation. And that’s not a good idea. And that’s the way I see it.
