In this edition of "HVAC Skill Builder," Matt discusses the steps for diagnosing a malfunctioning HVAC system and how to prioritize them.
What are the steps for diagnosing a malfunctioning HVAC system and how do you prioritize them? One of the best things you can do is understand the sequence of operation when it comes to an HVAC system whether that’s going to be your air conditioning, your heat pop, gas furnace, boiler, whatever it is, it’s really, really critical to understand the sequence of operation because it is one way for you to figure out where the system has failed. Also, if you’re going to go out there and prioritize the issue at hand is that if you go into someone’s house and you look up and you see the unit coming through the ceiling because water is everywhere, don’t sit there and take the time to try to diagnose it, get the issue handled, get the water from coming through the ceiling and then go back and start figuring out what caused it. But that would be the best advice from experience is understanding the sequence operation, applying that and figuring out where the system’s failed.
