ACCA Internships Prepare the Next Generation of Workers
Hello! My name is Wingel Caburian, and I have been a communications intern for the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) since the Fall of 2020. When I first applied for the communications intern role, I was drawn to the many opportunities to improve my writing and verbal skills. Through my ACCA internship, I have been able to expand my understanding of association communications and marketing, while also becoming more knowledgeable about the HVAC industry. Additionally, I have been pursuing my passion for the environment and sustainability through my internship by learning and writing articles on renewable resources such as solar energy.
Over the last year, I have worked with member contractors across the country as well as ACCA corporate partners on press releases, and magazine and blog articles. I appreciate the guidance and direction I have received from ACCA’s Director of Member Communications and Committee Liaison, Melissa Broadus. She has shown me the necessary steps that are needed to go into writing each communication piece that I’ve written. You can check out a few of my articles by visiting these links:
- “How to Ensure the Safety of Your Employees”
- “How Do I Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?”
- “What is Benchmarking, and Do I Even Need It?”
Lastly, it has been very empowering working with independent and intelligent women in a predominantly male industry, which is slowly but surely changing to be more gender inclusive!
Almost a year later, I am continuing to grow as a writer while learning more and more about the complexity of the HVACR industry. I am grateful to be working alongside the communications and marketing team, who continuously go out of their way to help me grow professionally. I believe ACCA is an amazing association, and I wouldn’t have had this experience any other way. I am looking forward to the next steps in my journey as college graduation is right around the corner.
