ACCA Announces Two Quality Standards Renewed for ANSI Status

Posted on:

The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) announces the reaffirmation of the ACCA 6 QR and ACCA 14 QMref for ANSI status. These and ACCA’s other Quality Standards outline the procedures for contractors to follow when designing, installing, maintaining, repairing, and verifying heating and cooling systems. The Quality Standards are recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which has been adopted by utilities, government agencies, manufacturers, and others nationwide. The Quality Standards provide guidance to make buildings truly energy efficient while ensuring the comfort of all occupants.

ACCA is one of over a hundred organizations that develop standards and supports ANSI. ANSI approval of ACCA manuals, procedures, and processes verify that the principles of openness and due process have been followed in developing these materials and that a consensus of those directly affected by the standards has been achieved. ACCA’s ANSI standards activity is overseen by its Standards Task Team.

“ACCA’s review of the above standards was conducted in accordance with ANSI’s essential requirements,” said David Bixby, ACCA Manager of Codes and Standards. “Once a standard is approved by ANSI, it must be reviewed every five years to determine whether it requires additional changes or updates, reaffirmation if no changes are needed, or withdrawal. In the case of these two standards, reaffirmation was chosen since no changes were identified during the review process.”

The ACCA 6 QR provides minimum requirements to restore the cleanliness of residential and commercial HVAC systems in accordance with manufacturer or customer-specified criteria. Its purpose is to address HVAC air pathways and associated airside HVAC components such as evaporator fan sections, air ducts, and components contained within HVAC systems.

In addition, the ACCA 14 QMref also provides minimum requirements for the maintenance of commercial refrigeration equipment that operate at medium and low-temperatures between -40F and 40F. These refrigeration systems are typically found in supermarkets, convenience stores, institutional applications, food services, and warehouses.

“ACCA is proud to provide the industry with Quality Standards that outline what contractors must follow to ensure the best quality of HVAC,” said ACCA President and CEO, Barton James. “ACCA continues to be recognized as the industry’s standard provider for the past 50 years, and we are proud to work every day to continue and elevate our industry.”
