Hey Ed, Should There Be Noise When It Comes to Airflow?
In this edition of "Hey Ed", Ed discusses when, if at all, airflow noise is okay in Manual D
Hey Ed, should there be noise when it comes to airflow? Noise from a system running, with respect to the air moving through the ductwork, in a residential application is usually an indication of something that is not designed properly or implemented properly. Noise is something that we’re not supposed to have in a residential application. The rules are different in a commercial application though, simply for the fact that we will often see commercial systems have their fan run 100% of the time due to the fact that, in most applications, fresh air from outside is a requirement. So, if we have air moving continuously even if it’s at a higher decibel level, like that stinkin' train going by again, that noise is acceptable because it blends into the background in fact it’s almost encouraged but again with those residential systems because it’s an on and off situation it becomes more apparent and we want to avoid that and that’s the way I see it
