2023 Efficiency Requirements – Are You Prepared?

Posted on:

Emerson, an ACCA Corporate Partner, recently surveyed HVACR contractors on their knowledge of and preparation for increasing federal minimum SEER/IEER efficiency requirements. The requirements will be mandated for air conditioning systems and heat pumps by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in January 2023.

Not even half of the contractors surveyed have taken steps to prepare for the changes. About 87 percent of contractors are familiar with the regulation changes, but 44 percent of respondents said they have yet to make plans for these upcoming regulations.

When asked about the requirement to begin using lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants as early as January 2025, 93 percent of respondents were aware of the requirement, and 61 percent said to have at least a basic understanding of the requirements.

Trade publications and industry organizations were listed as the top sources of information on regulatory changes.
